Glossary of Key Concepts in Our Work

🌀 Singularity (as we define it here)

Not simply the moment when AI surpasses human intelligence (as in Kurzweil’s framing), nor the mathematical or physical singularity where known laws break down.
In our vision:

👉 Singularity is the moment when human systems, values, and technologies align so closely that the distinction between human intent and system behavior dissolves.

👉 It is the point where means and ends no longer require the friction of incentives, deception, or control — because intelligence (augmented by AI) knows the right direction and pursues it without misalignment or waste.

👉 It represents not the obliteration of the human, but the elevation of collective wisdom — a merging of our highest aspirations with our most powerful tools.

👉 Singularity is not the endpoint, but the threshold of a new kind of moral and intellectual existence: where our social, economic, technological, and ecological systems function as one integrated fabric.

🧺 The Basket

A metaphor for what we choose to carry forward through history’s storms — our collective values, our cultural treasures, our shared humanity.
👉 The basket represents resilience, adaptability, and moral continuity.
👉 A well-woven basket can hold the fruits of progress without spilling its ethical core.

🏹 The Arrow

Our trajectory — individually and collectively.
👉 The Still Arrow refers to humanity’s long, often frozen arc: the myths, institutions, and systems that once gave direction but now resist change.
👉 The Thin Arrow refers to your personal journey: attempts to veer from inertia, met with friction and constraint.
👉 The Caged Arrow represents how our myths, systems, and incentives limit the full release of our potential.

🏰 The Castle

A symbol of our collective structures at various scales — from families to tribes to nations to planetary systems.
👉 The castles we build can protect, or they can isolate and oppress.
👉 Part of our work is to examine which walls are worth keeping, and which must come down.

🔥 The Wildfire

A symbol for runaway forces — technologies, ideologies, or natural dynamics — that, uncontained, can destroy what we value.
👉 AI, synthetic biology, nuclear weapons, and climate change are modern wildfires that demand new firebreaks (ethical, technical, social).

🌐 The Commons (Old and New)

Shared spaces — ecological, informational, digital, cultural — where collective value is created or preserved.
👉 The New Commons includes not just land and knowledge, but developer communities, ethical data pools, open algorithms, and tools of collective governance.
